Modesto Culture

Modesto’s culture is enriched with local minor league baseball, festivals, and the performing arts. The Modesto Nuts Minor League Baseball Club is a main source of entertainment between Easter and Labor Day. The Modesto Nuts are a Single A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, and play home games at the John Thurman field. The name was changed from the Modesto Athletics to the Modesto Nuts in 2005 to reflect the large agricultural influence in the area. Modesto has also become the host to numerous music festivals, which include the Downtown Summer Concert Series, SummerFest, and X-Fest. Some bands that have frequented these events include The Doobie Brothers, Styx, and Chris Isaak. X-Fest (short for Xclamation Festival) is a large 21-and-over outdoor event that spans 15 blocks in downtown Modesto. For a less rambunctious scene, the State Theatre is one of the central venues for music and independent films. For Broadway-style musicals, the Modesto Performing Arts is the city’s oldest theatre company that has been putting on live entertainment for over 43 years. Come to Modesto to experience the rich culture of outdoor fun and live performances.
