Modesto Population

Modesto has a household population of approximately 201,000 people, with 94.1 males to 100 females (US Census, 2000). Population pyramids graph the age distribution between males and females, which tells us about what sex and age groups are most frequent in cities (figure 3). Modesto’s pyramid data indicates a large population of adolescents, a reduction in population of people in their 20’s, and population increases for the age range of in the mid thirties through mid forties. As residents age, the population and tapers off. This indicates that there is a large working class with children. A decrease in the 20’s age range may be due to people moving away from the home, either to work or go to college. The tapering elderly population indicates that Modesto is unlikely to have a large retirement community. <br /
