Westside Modesto


The west side of Modesto is a triangular wedge that is situated west of Highway 99, east of South Carpenter Road, and north of the Tuolumne River. This region is the sports center of Modesto, hosting the John Thurman Baseball Field, Dryden Park Municipal Golf Course, and Modesto Municipal Golf Course. The West Modesto Certified Farmer’s Market is entering its third year and provides fresh fruits and vegetables to the community. This event draws out local residents to enjoy time with friends and family over fresh food, raffles, and children’s activities on Thursdays from 3-7pm at Mellis Park. West Modesto also has nearby attractions, such as Big Bear Lake (~5 miles) for camping and outdoor activities; Brenden Theatre Corporation (~2 miles) for movies; and the Modesto City County Airport (~4 miles). Modesto High School and James Marshall Park are also located in the west side neighborhood. Riverdale is located in western Modesto, with a Median Household Income of $35,217 and a household size of 3.72. The further west one travels, a more rural character is expressed influenced by agriculture and low density housing.
